How it all started:

Flying Boats Brewing was an idea that started in the early 1990s when founder, Marc Melanson, returned from 10 years of working as an automotive engineer in several European countries. After an abundance of distinctive, regionally produced beers in Europe, returning to Canada was akin to stumbling upon an arid desert, with a lack of selection and variety to choose from. Hence, in 2015, Marc founded Flying Boats Brewing. In February of 2024, Marc decided it was time to pass on the torch and sold the business to local entrepreneurs Alex Noël, Brad Devarennes, Kolin Barley and Brian Harriman. This is were things get interesting for the non-alcoholic beer category.

At its core, FLY came to life by the journey of co-owner Alex Noël, a former Ph.D. student whose personal challenges, linked to post-concussion syndromes, led to a deep exploration in the creation of functional non-alcoholic beverages. This ignited the vision for FLY Craft Beer—an entity committed to crafting exceptional NA Beers that cater to diverse preferences and occasions.

The new owners have dedicated two years of R&D in non-alcoholic beer production prior to acquiring Flying Boats Brewing.

Why FLY and the Blue Eagle?

FLY Craft Beer was named to embody the spirit of independence, innovation, and excellence. While Flying Boats Brewing branded beers represent the fuel-powered craft of aviation, FLY Craft Beer symbolizes self-sufficiency, much like the majestic eagle. The Blue Eagle, named Eddie Soarson (our mascot), reflects this philosophy—it soars effortlessly, needing no fuel (or alcohol) to rise above the rest.

The choice of a blue eagle is also deeply personal. Co-owner Alex Noël’s connection to the UdeM Aigles Bleus inspired the vibrant blue, adding a layer of local pride and individuality to our identity. The eagle’s symbolism aligns perfectly with our mission to craft exceptional non-alcoholic beers that empower people to "Soar Above The Rest."
